HIGHER ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT ¨ Promote and improve the Academic Performance Index in our schools. ¨ Develop and implement drop-out intervention services, such as early childhood programs for parenting teens, enhance literacy programs, and include effective workforce training and career/technical preparation programs. ¨ Enhance our marketing and communication efforts to assist parents and students with information about financial aid, scholarships, internships and higher educational opportunities. ¨ Invite Community College and University representatives to increase student exposure and improve recruiter awareness with our school district. The goal is to raise expectations for youth and give them information about college expectations. SAFE SCHOOLS ¨ Advocate for more school police to keep schools safe. ¨ Develop strong school safety plans by partnering with local police and fire departments. ¨ Work to ensure the safety of our youth by developing improved traffic patterns. ¨ Implement effective prevention/intervention programs to target gang influences. EXPAND EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES ¨ Student achievement is more than test scores! We must provide opportunities to engage our students beyond the classroom. Youth need expanded extracurricular activities such as sports, arts, cultural experiences, diverse career internships and unique summer enrichment such as studying abroad. STRONGER MENTORSHIPS ¨ Promote a strong alumni network, to provide first hand experience about higher education and career opportunities to our students and their parents.
